New Phototastic Collage

I’m very happy to be able to offer this mini watercolor workshop for your self-study!

This was my lesson in EVER AFTER 2017, so for those of you who missed my lesson there you can now enjoy it here! All the videos are downloadable and you have lifetime access!

In this workshop I will go through the process step-by-step of how I created the above painting of Mother Nature.

There are a total of five videos including the intro, plus a fifty minute + bonus video where I talk all about style development and what that means to me, and share with you all my tips and ideas on how to develop and cultivate yours! 🙂

What will you learn in this class:

  • Getting familiar with our watercolors
  • Exploring A three-quarter turned face with step-by step drawing and painting.
  • Layering with watercolors to create luminous glazes and delicate skin tones
  • Using elements of nature in our portraits to tell a visual story
  • Combining watercolor with color pencil techniques to create depth and detail
  • Applying masking fluid
  • Creating a soft “glow effect” with watercolor
  • Using texture elements to create variation and interest
  • Style development ideas, and suggestions on how to grow in your artistic journey

What kind of supplies to I need for this workshop?

You don’t have to go buying everything on the list, many things might be substituted for materials you already have! Below is a list of tools I will be using, along with links. Don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions

• Watercolor paper (I used hot press, 12×16’ but please use whatever you are comfortable with)
• Watercolors (A basic set will do. Better to get a few good quality basic colors than tons of colors in a low-quality grade. I used mostly the new Jane Davenport sets – Natural Palette and Bright palette.)
• Paintbrushes (It’s good to have at least a medium sized soft round and fine liner for details)
• Color pencils (I used the Prisma color pencils but any soft color-pencils will do!)
• White gel pen (a great one is the Uni-bal Signo Mitsubishi pen)
• Plastic wrap & kitchen salt
• Stencils (optional)
• Colorless masking fluid (I used Windsor Newton, which is a great brand, but please use whatever you have on hand.)
• An old brush or silicon clay tool (this is what I use) to apply the masking fluid.
• A graphite pencil and eraser for the sketch.
